For about a year, she managed to pay the rent and keep food on the table. But as her savings dwindled, she couldn’t always make car payments on time and had to use credit cards to cover the essentials, along with her divorce attorney’s fees. Unemployed for a total of 18 months, she watched her debt escalate to thousands of dollars, then tens of thousands.
“It was overwhelming. I couldn’t see a way out,” said Lindsay, a marketing specialist from Charlotte, NC.
Lindsay made an appointment with a bankruptcy lawyer, even though she knew that declaring bankruptcy would devastate her credit score and make life even harder. But then she remembered that a friend had received help from a debt relief company, so she called to ask how it worked.
That company was National Debt Relief – and Lindsay will be forever grateful that she made the call. “From day one, it was absolute relief. I finally had a plan. I finally had a path forward,” she says.
Thanks to guidance and support from National Debt Relief’s team, Lindsay will have paid off $32,000 in debt within four years, at a fraction of what she owed. Compare that to a bankruptcy, which would have stayed on her credit report for seven to 10 years (depending on the type she chose). Bankruptcy also makes it difficult to qualify for a loan at a decent interest rate.
National Debt Relief’s goal is to help people “get their lives back,” according to Natalia Brown, the company’s Chief Client Operations Officer.
“National Debt Relief has helped hundreds of thousands of clients resolve unsecured debt and achieve financial independence over the past decade,” Brown says.
Their debt settlement program is simple: You authorize National Debt Relief to negotiate with creditors on your behalf to reduce the amount you owe. That could mean as much as 50% of your debt will be reduced.
If you agree with the plan, you’ll be charged a fee – but if they can’t settle your debt, you won’t owe National Debt Relief a dime. You could be saving tens of thousands of dollars in late fees and interest on your debt.
“No judgment, total encouragement”
After speaking with National Debt Relief’s certified debt specialists, Lindsay was able to breathe once again. When bill collectors called, she would tell them that her obligations were now being managed by a reputable debt relief company.
After months of taking curt or even hostile calls from those bill collectors, “it was so refreshing to get an encouraging and understanding person on the other end of the phone,” said Lindsay. “No judgment, total encouragement and complete support – they’re fantastic.”
Throughout her debt repayment journey, Lindsay has relied on the continuing support of the National Debt Relief team. She received regular updates as to how much debt had been paid down and knows that she can call them at any time with questions – or just for a little dose of encouragement. Lindsay could also log in and track her progress online at any time, both day and night.
Now she’s optimistic about her financial future. Recently she was able to get a car loan at 3.9% interest; before working with National Debt Relief, she was paying “double-digit rates.” Lindsay is engaged to be married, and she and her fiancé are planning to buy a home – something she never thought was possible.
Now she can afford to stage birthday parties for her children, now aged 9 and 11. One of her daughters is so good at soccer that she was invited to join a travel team – an expense Lindsay can easily fit into her new budget. She’s beyond happy to be able to give her children “the life they deserve.”
“The greatest decision”
There’s a tremendous social stigma about debt. It’s commonly believed that if you owe money, it’s because you spent recklessly or made poor life choices. That may be true in some cases. But debt is more commonly the result of wild cards like illness, unemployment, or divorce.
“We hear about the impact of debt from our clients every day — how it is an isolating problem that also affects self-esteem, relationships, to their physical and mental well-being. Our goal is to destigmatize debt and empower people to take back control of their finances,” says Natalia Brown.
Heavy debt can send your finances off track for years. Like Lindsay, many debtors see no way out. They will throw every dollar they can at obligations that simply can’t be paid off on what they currently earn.
That could mean months, or even years, of “opportunity cost” – which means that the cash they put toward an unpayable debt can’t work for them in any other way. That’s money that can’t be saved for retirement, help pay for a home or contribute to a child’s college education. It’s simply gone.
National Debt Relief has helped consumers resolve more than $10 billion in debt in the past 10 years. These successes have resulted in an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau and more than 75,000 five-star ratings from clients across top review sites.
A few years ago, Lindsay was utterly stressed. Should she answer the phone? It might be another bill collector, demanding money she didn’t have. Every day she feared her car would be repossessed – and then how would she get to job interviews? As her children grew and their needs increased, would she be able to meet them?
National Debt Relief has given her a clear path toward a bright future. That’s why Lindsay urges anyone who’s drowning in debt to take the first step toward financial independence.
“Don’t walk – run to NDR,” she says. “It’s really the greatest decision I made for my future.”
